Creative health is about using creative activities — like art, music, dance, storytelling, or crafts — to help people feel better in mind and body, connect with others, and enjoy life more.

At its heart, creative health supports the whole person — physical, mental and social wellbeing — rather than focusing only on symptoms or conditions. It recognises that feeling healthy isn’t just about the absence of illness, it’s about having meaning, purpose, connection and joy in daily life.
It can help prevent people from feeling unwell, support them to manage long-term issues, and be part of recovery when they are experiencing more challenging times.
Importantly, it is for everyone, no matter who we are. Creative activities are valued not just because they’re enjoyable, but because they help build social connection, reduce isolation, and support people to take care of themselves and each other. Making space for creativity can help you live better for longer.
Working in partnership with A Collective
Our creative programming is led by A Collective, a small Croydon-based non-profit formed of multi-disciplinary neurodivergent creatives, workshop facilitators and arts educators. A Collective’s co-founder, Jill, is also the founder of The Story Sanctuary.
The team is experienced in co-designing and co-producing participatory projects with diverse communities. We value shared decision-making and cultures of care and belonging.
A Collective is a member of Croydon’s Creative Health Network and works to the Creative Health Quality Framework. This means we shape our work together with our community in ethical and equitable ways. Don’t worry — we also love to play and have fun!
